Membrillo quince paste has a sweet-tart flavour that balances perfectly with buttery, aged Manchego or nutty Gouda. When sliced, this firm jelly-like confection fills the nose with honeyed fragrance.Â
Also known as quince cheese, membrillo has ancient origins, appearing in Roman cookbooks from as early as the 4th and 5th centuries.Â
A familiar addition to the Spanish cheeseboard, it can also be used to add a sweet, aromatic layer to toasties, or as a stuffing for cakes, pastries and tarts. Â
Ingredients: Quince (60%), sugar, stabiliser (agar-agar) acidulant (citric acid), preservative (potassium sorbate)
