Terre Exotique’s pequin chilli peppers are fruity and spicy – excellent for chilli con carne and tomato sauces. The pequin chilli originated in Bolivia, but birds quickly carried the seeds spreading them across South America and Mexico – hence their unusual name!
Coming from the same part of the Solanaceae family as tomatoes and aubergines, these chillies grow in hot, sunny regions – they turn from green to black then red when fully ripe. Rating between 50,000 and 70,000 on the Scoville Heat Unit, they are extremely hot with fruity undertones.Â
Use pequin chilli peppers when spicy tomato sauces and chilli con carne.
This 150g bag is ideal for catering purposes and professional kitchens – the pequin chilli pepper comes in opaque packaging, protecting it from light and preserving the fresh flavour, while the flat base makes it easy to store.
About Terre Exotique
Terre Exotique works directly with hundreds of specialist farmers and producers around the world – to bring the very best peppers, spices and salts to our tables. The company was founded by Erwann de Kerros, a Breton and seasoned traveller. After tasting pepper in the Penja plantation in Cameroon, Kerros yearned to try other specialist peppers and spices – and Terre Exotique was born.
The company works closely with farmers to preserve natural habitats, and to ensure a sustainable income for local communities. Each spice is carefully packed in pouches – the opaque packaging preserves the flavours and aroma of your spice, by protecting them from sunlight. So the ingredients stay at their best for longer.
