Pu-Erh tea is a variety of Chinese fermented tea produced in Yunnan Province, and is heralded as some of the finest tea on the planet. This Pu-Erh has notes of chocolate, stone fruit and an almost peaty flavour – not dissimilar to whisky.
The tea is made with the same camellia sinensis leaves that are traditionally used in most Chinese teas, but Pu-Erh differs in its specialised fermentation process. The tea leaves are aged for several years (sometimes even decades) then packed into bricks or cakes, which intensifies their flavour even further.Â
Unlike other fermented tea such as kombucha, the leaves themselves are fermented before brewing, as opposed to the brewed tea.Â
Brew a cup and enjoy black after a rich meal – the cleansing flavour is a great way to aid digestion.
